What is CEREC Same Day Dental Crowns?

CEREC is an advanced computer-assisted design/manufacturing dental technology. The device allows for the planning, creation and placement of a dental crown to occur in just one single appointment.

CEREC comes with a digital scanner. Instead of the traditional goopy impressions, the digital scanner takes a digital impression of your teeth. Patients love no mess impressions! Alongside the digital impression, our on-site lab tech will design your custom dental crown. The digital creation is then sent to our in-office milling unit, where your custom dental crown is milled out of a block of porcelain that is shade-matched to your teeth. All of this takes place directly in our office during your time of visit.

Same Day Crowns vs. Traditional Crowns Process

When making a traditional dental crown, patients have to visit their Philadelphia dental office at least twice. The initial appointment for the impression of the tooth or teeth needing the crown(s) and the second appointment for the crown's placement. The time between the two appointments is usually about 2-3 weeks, and during this time, the patient has to wear a temporary crown. With same day dental crowns, no temporary crown is needed, and you leave the office the same day with your final restoration. The same day dental crown appointment is typically completed within a few hours.

In some instances, the tooth shade matching of the same day crown needs more than one day to create.
CEREC only creates ceramic crowns. With traditional crowns, you can get metal and porcelain. Metal and porcelain crowns can be stronger and less subject to wear and tear than same day dental crowns.
